FAQ

How long can I store the product ?

All our products  have a label on the back with their batch number and “best before” date. "Best before" dates are about quality, not safety. When the date is passed, it doesn't mean that the food will be harmful, but it might begin to lose its flavour and texture. However we don't recommand to consume product that has been more then a couple of days over the “best before” date.

Once the bag has been open keep it refrigerated and consume within 2-3 days.

Can I still eat the product if it the bag has lost the vacuum seal?

To guarantee freshness we vacuum pack our products. If your bag has lost its seal it means that the bag has a puncture or the seal itself is broken. For food hygiene and safety reasons we do not recommand you consume the product.

Do the mussels need to be store in the fridge?

Our products should be stored in the fridge. However if you heading for a picnic they fine kept in a chilly bin and consumed within the day once opened.

Are the mussels collected from the coastal rocks?

No. Our mussels are farmed in the pristine waters of the Coromandel. They are cultivated on ropes with sustainable and environmentally friendly practises that have been recognised by Aquaculture NZ.

Are the farmed mussels feed?

Mussels are filter feeders. They feed on plankton and other microscopic sea creatures which are free-floating in seawater. Farmed mussels are not artificially feed and no use of fertiliser, herbicides or pesticide are used.

Are mussels healthy?

NZ Greenshell mussels are one of the planet’s super foods. They are low in fat, calories and cholesterol and high in iron, protein and essential Omega-3 fatty acids. 6 medium size mussels provide approximately 25% of an adult’s protein requirement, with protein being necessary in the building and repairing of muscle tissue.
